Garagiste North and BC Pinot Recap-Episode 36 | Wine Talk

This episodes features three short interviews, and a recap of the BC Pinot Celebration from Kelowna. I was fortunate enough to stay with my friends on the Kitsch Wines property, and sample 25-30 different wineries at this celebration.
 
Also, I was invited to the Garagiste North Wine Festival, which focuses on small wineries in BC, that make 2000 cases or less. Some of them truly are garagiste level, while others are verging on big name success. I was lucky enough to taste quite a few, with some of course being a very low intervention style, so a definite contrast to the bigger wineries. All in all, a great weekend. 
 
I also managed to record a few minutes with three of my favourites from the Garagiste North Wine Festival, which was at Sperling Vineyards in East Kelowna. Mike Mosny of Winemaker's Cut, Anthony Buchanan, who is the head winemaker of Desert Hills, now has his own side label called Anthony Buchanan Wines, and finally Tyler Knight from Lightning Rock, who shares the wine growing and wine making duties with his wife, Jordan Kubek.

She has a well earned reputation in the wine community as someone who is full of knowledge and passion for wine, and eager to help share it with others. Sam Mudie-Episode 31 | Cult Wines | Wine Talk

Sam Mudie is the General Manager for Cult Wines, Singapore. He joins me for a discussion on wine investment, specifically with a focus on the South East Asian market.      
We also get in to his personal journey with wine, some of his early influences, the rise of Napa wine for investment, and whether or not natural wines is trending within wine investment portfolios. Esther Mobley-Episode 30 | Wine Talk

Esther Mobley joins me for some fun wine talk. In this episode, we discuss a variety of topics, including upcoming varietals in California, the current status of Napa Valley wines, the rise of Lodi, and the always popular natural wine debate and how it plays out in California, and the rest of the American wine scene. We also go back to how she got into her current role as the wine critic for the San Francisco Chronicle.     
 
Esther has worked as an editorial intern for the Wine Enthusiast and assistant editor for the Wine Spectator before landing her role as the wine critic for the San Francisco Chronicle. She primarily writes about California wines, and won an award for best writing by the Association of Food Journalists in 2017. She enjoys a well deserved reputation that allows her access behind the scenes into the world of American wine.

Join us as we sit around the dinner table at the Kitsch Wines property. In this episode, winemaker Grant Biggs cooks us dinner and we are joined by Katie Truscott, tasting room manager for Kitsch, plus Ria Kitsch, who is one of the founders of Kitsch Wines.

Kelsey Rufiange-Episode 28 | Echo Bay Vineyard | Wine Talk

Kelsey Rufiange is a relatively new winemaker in the diverse Okanagan wine landscape. Her family planted vines on their property in 2013, and over the last few years, she took over all of the grape growing and wine making. She studied oenology and viticulture at Lincoln University and worked vintages in New Zealand, California and Australia. Their wines feature limited SO2 usage, relying on minimal intervention, natural fermentation with organic growing and biodynamic practices.    
 
This episode features my recent trip to the Okanagan region, with my stop in OK Falls to visit Kelsey and taste some of her wine. We also got to experience barrel samples from some of her up and coming wines. I'm joined in this podcast by my wife, who helped me share a great talk with Kelsey.
